Abstract<\/h4>\n

Ports and cities have historically been closely linked. However, it is argued that ports have become increasingly detached from cities in spatial, institutional, economic and social terms. As ports have moved into deeper waters in the 20th century, old port areas have been left behind in city centres. The redevelopment of these areas is a logical consequence. The Stadshavens Rotterdam project is a redevelopment project on the border between port and city. The municipality and the port authority are working closely together to transform the old port areas into an area with both urban and port functions. The project mainly consists of investments in infrastructure and open spaces. The aim of this research was to find out how the Stadshavens Rotterdam project can strengthen the relationship between city and port. To this end, the following research question was formulated How can the redevelopment of old port areas improve the integration between port and city?<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
